With song, harmony, melody and rhythm being the main focus of Aquilina, it’s very difficult not to focus on anything else. Started by Joseph Aquilina (vocals & guitar) met double bass player Paul Baker outside the Royal College and organised a jam. Collaborating with various musicians since forming in 2000, the core members consist of Joseph, Paul and Joseph’s old friend from his anarchic teens Chilean drummer Lenin Alegria. Their sound has been described as an ethereal amalgam of Davey Grayham, Jane’s Addiction, Soundgarden, Nick Drake, Pearl Jam and Radio Head, that drifts through the grooves, harmonies and melodies spanning the world local and afar; with accolades from artists that include Natasha Atlas, Nigel Kennedy, Chicane and Zoe Rahman.
