In May 1977 three artists stumbled across a tiny storefront in the heart of Greenwich Village and thought it the perfect place to open a café. Cornelia Street now offers some 700 shows a year, two a night, ranging from science to songwriting, from Russian poetry to Latin jazz, from theatre to cabaret.

livamp review

Cornelia Street Cafe is as accurate as one can get to capturing the New York artistic spirit. For decades the owners have maintained an unwavering commitment to nurturing and sharing talent across genres. This is one of those venues where you certainly don’t need to wait for the weekend to see the ‘good stuff’.

Eri Yamamoto Trio

Eri Yamamoto’s CD “Life” (AUM fidelity) is a generous new collection of unique songs, performed with her longstanding trio partners, bassist David Ambrosio and drummer Ikuo Takeuchi. As the album title suggests, the music portrays a wide range of her life experiences - from joyful to introspective, reflecting the vibrancy of New York City and exploring mysteries of nature and memory. These songs are rich in memorable melodies, and cover a broad palette of textures and colors. “Life” features a dozen brand new compositions, and fresh takes on two earlier songs which have been crowd favorites at her concerts. This recording is Eri’s tenth as a leader, and its release marks her twentieth anniversary as a working jazz musician in NYC.
